NCAA tickets on sale
Eighty per cent of tickets have already been sold for the NCAA Division I women’s basketball game between Iowa State and Eastern Michigan to be played Nov. 21 at St. Clair College’s Thames Campus HealthPlex.
Senior guard Bridget Carleton of Chatham is an honourable mention all-American at Iowa State.
Tickets cost $10 for Chatham-Kent Wildcats players and $20 for all others.
Tickets will be sold and can also be picked up Wednesday from 5:45-7:30 p.m. at the WISH Centre.
Green wins Lancers’ award
Football player Clark Green of Chatham was named the Windsor Lancers’ male athlete of the week Monday.
Green set a school record Saturday by kicking six field goals in a 26-24 comeback win over the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Green made the winning 45-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter.
He also had an extra point and a rouge to finish with 20 points.
Vancoillie, Pegg win
WINDSOR – Talia Vancoillie of Wallaceburg and Emma Pegg of Chatham-Kent were winners at the Jerry Slavik Memorial Thrill on the Hill cross-country meet Thursday.
Vancoillie won the midget girls’ four-km race in 16:09.3. Rylee Stanford of Blenheim was fifth in 16:36.4 and Sydney Sheppy of Ursuline was sixth in 16:43.2.
Pegg won the junior girls’ five-km race in 18:50.9. Alyssa Robinson of Chatham-Kent was third in 19:51.7.
Payton Sabourin of Chatham-Kent was second in the senior girls’ six-km race in 23:59.4. Brooke MacLeod of Ursuline was sixth in 25:09.9.
Adrian Stubberfield of Chatham-Kent was seventh in the senior boys’ six-km race in 21:01.3.
Blake Tinline of Blenheim was ninth in the midget boys’ four-km race in 15:06.5. Ryan Burritt of Wallaceburg was 10th in 15:07.7.
Balkwill with 0.00 ERA
Pitcher Matt Balkwill of Chatham has one win, two saves and a 0.00 earned-run average in five games for the Brock Badgers baseball team.
Balkwill threw one inning of scoreless relief for the victory Sunday in a 3-2 walkoff win over Guelph.
He earned a save Saturday by throwing two innings in a 4-1 win over Western.
High school tennis
The LKSSAA South Region tennis tournament has been rescheduled to Wednesday.
Boys’ singles, girls’ singles and girls’ doubles are at the Chatham Tennis Club. Mixed doubles and boys’ doubles are at the Doug Allin courts next to John McGregor Secondary School.
The top four in each division qualify for the LKSSAA championship Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Chatham.
The SWOSSAA championship will be Thursday, Oct. 18, in Chatham.
