Chatham apartment fire quickly doused

Firefighters from Stations No. 1 and No. 2 Chatham were able to quickly douse a fire at a multi-unit dwelling in Chatham Sunday night.

The fire crews were called to 46 Richmond St. just after 7 p.m.

There was significant smoke and water damage to the apartment of origin, but the quick response by fire crews significantly limited damage to adjacent apartments, stated a media release from Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services.

There was an approximate loss of $15,000 due to the fire, but an estimated $750,000 in property was saved.

The cause of the blaze is listed as undetermined.
