Lincolns end Maroons' winning streak

The Chatham Maroons’ six-game winning streak ended Sunday with a 7-3 loss to the St. Marys Lincolns.

The Lincolns scored six goals in the third period in front of 713 fans at Chatham Memorial Arena.

Defenceman Jake O’Donnell scored twice for the Maroons, who led 2-1 after two periods. His second goal tied the score 3-3 early in the third period.

Eddie Schulz had a goal and an assist.

Maroons goalie Tristan Lewis made 33 saves against his former team. He was acquired from the Lincolns in the off-season.

The Maroons played without leading scorer Sean O’Brien, who served the first game of his four-game suspension. He was whistled as the instigator and aggressor for his fight in Friday’s overtime win in St. Thomas and also received a gross misconduct.

Cayse Ton, Blair Butchart and Joe Mazur each scored two goals for the Lincolns. Josh Martin added one and Justin Richer made 41 saves.

Butchart’s second power-play goal snapped a 3-3 tie at 4:28 of the third period.

The Lincolns went 3-for-7 with a man advantage, while the Maroons were 0-for-4.

The teams combined for five goals – four by the Lincolns – in the first six minutes of the third period.

The Maroons (11-3-0-2) are in second place in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Western Conference.

They’ll play a home-and-home series with the Vipers in LaSalle on Wednesday and at Memorial Arena at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Harris wins conference award

Maroons rookie Adam Harris is the Western Conference goalie of the month for October.

Harris went 3-0 last month while allowing six goals in three starts. He stopped 107 of 113 shots.

The 17-year-old from Burlington is 5-1-0 overall with a 2.59 goals-against average and .922 save percentage.
