Maroons make blockbuster trade with Flyers

The Chatham Maroons acquired the Leamington Flyers’ top two scorers in a major trade Wednesday.

The Maroons picked up veteran forwards Griffin Robinson and Maddux Rychel in exchange for forwards Thomas Michaud and Josh King.

Griffin, who turns 19 on Nov. 21, leads the Flyers with 23 points in 18 games. He was also their leading scorer last season with 55 points in 50 games.

The Harrow native is in his third season in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. He has 112 points in 119 career games.

Rychel, 19, is in his fourth GOJHL season. He was tied for second on the Flyers with 21 points in 17 games and was also their second-leading scorer last season with a career-high 45 points in 38 games.

The Tecumseh native played his first two junior ‘B’ seasons with the LaSalle Vipers.

Michaud, 18, had 5-9-14 totals in 15 games in his second season with the Maroons. The Blenheim native had 23 points in 45 games as a rookie.

King, 19, was in his third season with the Maroons and had 4-1-5 totals in 13 games. He had 24 points in each of his first two seasons in Chatham.

The Maroons (11-3-0-2) and Flyers (9-6-1-2) were only three points apart going into Wednesday’s games. Chatham was second in the Western Conference and Leamington was tied for third.
