In the next three weeks it will be determined if a young man charged with burglary is fit enough to plead.
Shane Ali Ramon Brathwaite, 25, of Hoytes Village, St James, was today remanded to the Psychiatric Hospital by Acting Magistrate Sandra Rawlins until December 21 when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court.
Brathwaite is charged with entering the dwelling house of Corey Kenaz as a trespasser between September 14 and November 3, 2018, and stealing $1000, three cellular phones, one gold chain, a gold bracelet, a memory stick and remote, two watches, two silver bracelets, two bottles of Johnny Walker whisky, two bottles of Hennessy brandy, a bottle of Jack Daniels whisky, Belvedere vodka and a beaded chain, total value $6722 belonging to Kenaz.
Rawlins made the decision following a recommendation by prosecutor Station Sergeant Carrison Henry.
Henry revealed that Brathwaite was an outpatient of the mental institution and said an evaluation should be completed to determine if he was fit to plead.
But in his bail submission the accused’s attorney John Collymore asked the court to grant his client bail so that he could continue his treatment.
However, the magistrate agreed with the prosecutor and remanded Brathwaite to the Psychiatric Hospital where an evaluation is to be done.
