Cobras host Silver Stick
The Kent Minor Hockey Association hosted its annual Chatham Regional Silver Stick Tournament on the weekend.
The host Cobras had a team playing in all seven divisions. The Minor Midget ‘AA’ Cobras lost to the London Jr. Knights 6-3 in their final.
Four more Cobras teams (minor bantam ‘AA’, minor peewee ‘AA’, minor atom ‘AA’ and bantam AE) lost in the semifinals. Two teams (peewee AE and atom AE) missed the playoffs.
Blades split two games
The Blenheim Blades split two weekend games in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Stobbs Division.
They beat the Wallaceburg Lakers 9-1 on Sunday and lost to the Mooretown Flags 5-2 on Saturday.
The Blades (11-12-2-0) are tied for sixth place with the Wheatley Omstead Sharks.
On Sunday, rookies Sebastian Stubberfield and Cameron Symons each had a hat trick and one assist in front of 548 fans at Blenheim Memorial Arena.
Kier Cumming scored 49 seconds into the game. Connor Wright and David Cooke also scored for the Blades and Will Tetzlaff had six assists.
The Blades led 3-0 after one period and 7-1 after two.
Blades goalie Chris Dewulf stopped 18 of 19 shots in two periods. Tyler Letchford made seven saves in the third.
Josh Remsik scored and Patrick Timpany made 43 saves for the Lakers (0-22-0-2).
On Saturday, Connor Wright and Keegan MacVoy scored for the Blades, who led 2-1 midway through the second period.
Dewulf made 34 saves. Mooretown’s Jake Wilkins made 37.
Cameron Rannie had a hat trick for the Flags (14-91-4), who scored three in the third period. Colton Osborne and Blake Howard also scored.
Kings’ Ritchie nets winner
LAKESHORE – Brendan Ritchie scored the winning goal at 18:34 of the third period as the Dresden Kings beat the Lakeshore Canadiens 3-1 on Saturday.
The Kings (21-4-0-2) moved back into first place in the PJHL Stobbs Division. They’re one point ahead of the Essex 73’s (20-4-0-3) going into Tuesday’s game in Essex.
Ritchie’s goal broke a 1-1 tie. Nolan VandenBoorn added an empty-netter.
Dresden’s Brady Hogg and Lakeshore’s Eric Larue traded goals in the first period.
Kings goalie Brett Brochu made 41 saves. Erik Morneau made 18 for the Canadiens (15-7-1-3), who outshot the Kings 42-21.
Shutout loss for Sharks
AMHERSTBURG – Jared Ratko had a 34-save shutout for the Amherstburg Admirals in a 4-0 win over the Wheatley Omstead Sharks on Sunday in the PJHL Stobbs Division.
Ex-Chatham Maroons forward Josh DiCarlo had a goal and an assist. Travis Campbell, Josh Talerico and Andrew Clark also scored for the third-place Admirals (17-5-0-3).
Catalin Morin of the Sharks (11-13-0-2) made 18 saves.
