Baby in vehicle when alleged assault took place

A 28-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing domestic-related offences in connection with an incident that occurred while a female victim was driving with a baby in the vehicle.

Chatham-Kent police said an argument between the accused and a woman began Wednesday afternoon while they were driving with their infant child.

Police said the accused assaulted the woman as she was driving.

When the woman stopped to try to leave the vehicle, police said the accused grabbed her jacket. After she broke free, the altercation continued outside the vehicle, police said.

The victim returned to the vehicle and drove the three of them home.

Once they returned, police said the accused threatened the victim and police were called.

The man was arrested and charged with assault, forcible confinement and uttering threats. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Mischief

A 48-year-old Wallaceburg woman is facing a mischief charge after an incident occurred in the common area of a Thomas Avenue apartment building.

Chatham-Kent police said tenants of the building were awoken around 7 a.m. by a loud noise in the common area.

Police said the accused was found scattering puzzle boxes all over the floor, moving furniture and causing a mess in the kitchen.

She was charged with mischief by preventing the lawful enjoyment of property, police said.

The woman was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Assault charge

A 33-year-old Chatham man if facing an assault charge after went to a woman’s home around 11 p.m. Wednesday, which resulted in a domestic disturbance.

Chatham-Kent police said the accused fled the residence as the woman called 911 for help.

Officers located the accused a short time later and he was arrested and taken into custody pending a bail hearing, police said.

Pokemon cards stolen

The theft of $158 worth of Pokemon cards has landed a 31-year-old Chatham man in trouble with the law.

Chatham-Kent police responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Chatham Walmart store Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the accused was caught by a loss prevention officer concealing the cards in his coat pocket after being apprehended outside.

The accused has been charged with theft and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000. He was released with a court date on Friday.

Break-ins

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a couple of break-ins that occurred early Thursday morning.

Police responded to an alarm at Delta Power Equipment on Industrial Park Road in Tilbury just before 2 a.m. where officers found a glass door had been smashed.

Police are continuing to work with employees to determine if anything was stolen.

Around 2:30 a.m., police responded to an alarm at Subway on Keil Drive in Chatham.

Police said a glass door was smashed and money had been stolen.

Damage is estimated at $500.
