Person goes through ice on Thames River in Chatham, gets out on own

There was some drama along the Thames River in Chatham early Thursday evening.

The Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services dive team was called to the Thamesgrove Conservation Area after a someone called 911 to report that a person had gone through the ice on the Thames River around 6 p.m.

Chatham-Kent police and fire personnel both confirmed a person had gone through the ice but was able to get across to the other side of the river.

A person was put into an ambulance at the end of Stanley Avenue and transported to hospital shortly before 7 p.m.

No details were immediately available on the condition of the person.
