C-K police offer advice to not fall for a 'romance scam'

Love is in the air with the approach of Valentine’s Day and Chatham-Kent police offers some advice on not falling prey to a ‘romance scam.’

Police said if you are dating online, beware of these warning signs:

  • A quick declaration of love;
  • A request to go off a dating site and chat via email or cell phone instead;
  • An area code that is not where the person says they are from;
  • Request for small gifts, as a test to see if you’re the ideal target;
  • Request for inappropriate photos, that they can later use to extort money from you;
