A local pastor is claiming that there is a satanic influence in the deviant behaviour being played out by some of the island’s youth.
Wesleyan Holiness minister, Aubrey O’Neal said it was the role of the church to stop what he described as a trend, from maturing into an unwanted problem.
O’Neal said the church must not turn a blind eye to this developing situation which only has negative effects for society.
“This is no hearsay. We have left our doors and we have gone into the community and we called it a Jericho walk. We are walking through the community, and we are going house to house. And what we are sensing is that our children, as young as 17 and 18, are having CDS, and DVDS, they are visualising, and then they are acting out what they are visualising,” he said.
The pastor raised the concern as he spoke during a press conference held this morning at the Restoration Ministries in Brittons Hill, St Michael, to speak about plans for the upcoming Weekend of Prayer being organised by the National Network of Pastors and Leaders.
O’Neal said, the church must speak out about the satanic influences seeping into society, and should also be instrumental in identifying the trends, and trying to curtail the problem. He said incarcerating those who have broken the laws of the land, or sentencing them to community service, were not the answers to the problem.
“We need the church to enlighten society about what is trending and let us challenge that trend and rescue our youth. There are more than just deviant behaviours. There are sub cultures that are developing in our culture and they must be arrested.
“Whenever you are sensing satanism increasing in your society, this is no time for gimmicks. Social programmes are not going to change it. The church has to be the leader to deal with these forces.
“We need all the social partners. We need all the church groupings. We need them, they have their roles to play, every one of them.
“When you sense satanic behaviour manifesting itself in your society, the church has to stand there with the mandate. Social groupings do not have any authority to deal with satanic interventions. It is like a keyboard, there is a part for everyone to play,” he said.
