On February 3, 2016 Dave James was sitting near a stall at Nursery Drive Terminal in The City, when a group of men ran over the bridge from the direction of River Road brandishing pieces of wood.
Fearful for his life he took off, through a track leading to Constitution Road but when he reached the end another group of men who he saw exit a vehicle and also armed with pieces of wood pounced. They beat him about the body and the head, which resulted in several lacerations.
The men also stole his possessions.
Police Constable Kenmore Phillips who outlined the facts in in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today said James was able to escape and reported the matter to lawmen. His possessions were never recovered.
Three years later 31-year-old Shamar Jamal Marshall, of 9B Bonnetts, Brittons Hill, St Michael, who had maintained his innocence with regard to the crime, threw in the towel and admitted before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant to his involvement in the incident.
“I am very sorry for what had happen at the time. I apologise,” said Marshall who had
been charged with unlawfully and
maliciously wounding James on date of the incident back in 2016. He was also charged with stealing two gold chains and a cellular phone worth $3,920 belonging to the complainant.
Marshall had been on $5,000 bail. However he is currently on remand at HMP Dodds on another criminal charge.
He will know his fate when he returns before Magistrate Cuffy-Sargeant on March 21.
