Kings face elimination
DRESDEN – The Dresden Kings are on the brink of elimination after losing to the Lakeshore Canadiens 4-2 on Sunday in the Provincial Junior Hockey League playoffs.
The second-seeded Canadiens lead 3-1 in the best-of-seven Bill Stobbs Division semifinal.
Game 5 is at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Lakeshore.
Nolan VandenBoorn and Dawson Winchester staked the Kings to a 2-0 lead in the first period of Game 4 before 487 fans at the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre.
The Canadiens replied with three goals in a four-minute span late in the second period. Eric Larue scored the first two on power plays and Jarrett Tazzman potted the winner.
Parker Jacques added an empty-netter in the third.
Kings goalie Brett Brochu made 24 saves. Erik Morneau of the Canadiens made 14.
The series winner will face the top-seeded Essex 73’s in the final.
The 73’s completed a four-game sweep of the Amherstburg Admirals with a 5-2 win Sunday in Amherstburg.
Brodie second star
CALGARY – T.J. Brodie of Dresden was the second star with a goal and an assist for the Calgary Flames in a 2-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.
Brodie scored the first goal and set up Andrew Mangiapane for the third-period winner.
He has eight goals and 23 assists in 61 games.
Raaymakers fifth in OHL
London Knights goalie Joseph Raaymakers of Chatham ranks fifth in the Ontario Hockey League in wins (29), goals-against average (2.76) and save percentage (.910).
Raaymakers made 22 saves Sunday in an 8-1 win over the North Bay Battalion in London.
He has a 29-6-4-1- record.
Baker scores winner
WATERLOO – Sydnee Baker of Chatham scored the winning goal as the Western Mustangs beat the Waterloo Warriors 2-1 in an OUA women’s hockey playoff game Saturday.
Western won the first-round series 2-0.
Renae Nevills of Thamesville also plays for the Mustangs, who’ll meet the Toronto Varsity Blues in a semifinal.
