Pastor passes the 20K running milestone

Brian Horrobin is the first member of the Defiance Running Club to join the 20,000-kilometre club.

The Wallaceburg-based running club began in 2011, with the members logging their running distances. Horrobin, 54, is the first runner to mark 20,000 kilometres. He was recognized for that accomplishment earlier this month.

Horrobin, who is a pastor at First Baptist Church in Wallaceburg, runs six days a week and rests on the seventh.

Running is something he’s has done since high school. He is a running advocate and is a regular at both regular road races and has traveled to run. Among his career running highlights is taking part in the Boston Marathon.

“I have boundless energy. I feel good. It’s something I really look forward to each day. It’s something I enjoy doing,” Horrobin said, noting he also likes the social aspect of running and meeting people.

Horrobin said he hasn’t any distance goals other than having fun and enjoying himself.

He has nice things to say about the Defiance Running Club.

“The running club is a great thing in our community,” Horrobin said. “It’s a great motivator. I enjoy the running community.”

“He’s the first to do it and he’s way ahead of everybody else,” said Defiance Club’s Mark Childs, adding that Horrobin is in the lead in career distance by a couple thousand kilometres.

The club has a running log on their Facebook page that is private, and everybody logs on and puts their distances into the database.
