On Sunday night, Chatham-Kent police responded to a family dispute at a residence in Chatham.
Police learned that a woman allegedly punched a family member. As the officer spoke with those in the home, the intoxicated woman allegedly threatened to punch him in the face.
As the woman was arrested, police said she became “combative and unco-operative.” Upon being escorted out to the cruiser, she allegedly spat in the officer’s face.
She was transported to headquarters and continued to be argumentative, police added. As she was placed in a holding cell, she allegedly spat on another officer.
The 28-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with assault, uttering threats and two counts of assaulting a peace officer. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Camera equipment recovered
On Saturday afternoon, police responded to a theft in the downtown Chatham area. A man riding a bicycle allegedly took camera equipment from a photographer preparing for a wedding.
Dispatchers provided the suspect’s physical description and last known direction to officers. Within minutes, an officer on general patrol reportedly found the man and camera equipment valued at approximately $8,000.
The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. Another officer rushed to where the wedding was taking place and returned the camera equipment to the photographer just in time to capture the bride and groom’s special day, police said.
The 60-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft over $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000. He was released with a court date.
Executed warrants
Police made a number of warrant arrests on Sunday.
On Sunday, police located a man wanted for breaching conditions of his probation. The 32-year-old Chatham man was arrested and released with a court date.
Police also arrested a man wanted for failing to sign in, as per his release conditions, mischief under $5,000 and failing to attend court. The 29-year-old Chatham man was held for bail.
Police arrested a man wanted for failing to comply with conditions of his bail supervision program and failing to comply with his curfew condition. The 18-year-old Chatham man was held for bail.
Tool theft
Sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, someone forced their way into a locked shed on Park Avenue West.
Stolen was a blue Mastercraft air compressor and attached air hose.

Break and enter in Dresden
Sometime between Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m., someone forced their way into Chatham-Kent Organics on Wellington Street. Stolen were various tools, a tool chest and two STIHL chainsaws.

Stolen motorcycle
Sometime between Sunday at 11 p.m. and Monday at 7 a.m., someone stole a 2007 blue Kawasaki Vulcan 900cc Harley Davidson motorcycle from a residence on Sheldon Avenue.
