Church youth group’s bus stolen

Who steals a bus from a church youth group?

That’s what U-Turn Ministries founder Jason Cartier is asking.

The Wallaceburg youth church group’s white 2005 Ford E450 22-passenger bus was stolen some time during the weekend of March 30-31.

The bus has tinted windows and no identifiable logos.

Cartier remains hopeful the bus will be found and returned in good condition.

“(Not having a bus) is going to affect us greatly,” Cartier said. “U-Turn, right from the beginning, has always been about making what we do accessible to the people we serve.”

The U-Turn Ministries bus is a familiar sight around Wallaceburg, picking up children and young people and taking them to their programs, summer camps or area events.

U-Turn Ministries, a not-for-profit organization that focuses on providing camps and activities for kids and teens, is based out of First Baptist Church.  The organization has had some bad luck over the years. Along with the bus being stolen recently, a trailer was tipped over, another bus was set on fire and a van had its windshield broken.

Cartier takes a lighthearted view of all the problems U-Turn Ministries has had with vandalism and theft over the years.

“We have to be doing some good stuff for people to feel like we have to be disrupted,” he said with a small smile.

Chatham-Kent police are investigating the stolen bus, and U-Turn Ministries has been in touch with its insurance company.
