A St George man had to part with $750 when he appeared before the Oistins Magistrate’s Court on drug charges recently.
Magistrate Elwood Watts imposed the fine on Ellerton Housing Area resident Antonio Renaldo Harper who had pleaded guilty to possession, possession with intent to supply and trafficking of 109 grammes of cannabis.
Station Sergeant Glenda Nicholls-Carter informed the court that officers were conducting operations at Farm Road, St George when they saw Harper standing near a shop.
As they drew nearer Harper who was carrying a haversack quickly walked away which aroused the lawmen’s suspicions. He was stopped and the bag he was carrying had a pungent odour which caused police to request a search resulting in the discovery of the illicit drug.
Magistrate Watts convicted, reprimanded and discharged Harper on the possession and supply charges and imposed the fine, which had an alternative 30-day prison sentence attached to the trafficking offence.
